  Optical Mouse Technology
I bought a cordless keyboard + optical mouse combo yesterday. That made me curious about the technology behind the optical mouse.
A quick search on Google took me to this site mainted by Richard L. Owens

Wired News: Cells That Go Back in Time
Wired News: Cells That Go Back in Time
Lop off a newt's leg or tail, and it will grow a new one. The creature's cells can regenerate thanks to built-in time machines that revert cells to early versions of themselves in a process called dedifferentiation.

The research is in its infancy, but a 2001 discovery jump-started the field of study. Mark Keating, Christopher McGann and Shannon Odelberg applied a protein extract derived from newts to mouse muscle cells. To their surprise, the protein extract transformed those muscle cells into stem cells in just 48 hours, which means the mouse cells would have the ability to regenerate.

Nano-Probes Stay Inside a Cell's Nucleus for Days
Researchers from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL) have developed fluorescent and stable nano-probes which can stay inside a cell's nucleus for hours or even days. According to this LBL news release, this will help biologists to better understand nuclear processes that evolve slowly, such as DNA replication, genomic alterations, and cell cycle control. This research was partially based on previous investigations about quantum dots. Now, the researchers want to tailor their quantum dots, which emit different colors depending on their sizes, to check specific chemical reactions inside nuclei, such as how proteins help repair DNA after irradiation.

  Zopa: eBay for money
Zopa is a place where creditworthy consumers who'd like to borrow money can get together with other consumers who are happy to lend it to them. Cutting out the middleman, lenders set their own rate of return and choose which borrowers they want to lend to.
To reduce overall risk, an individual lender doesn't actually lend to an individual borrower; instead a lender lends money across at least fifty Zopa borrowers, and similarly a borrower borrows from a group of Zopa lenders.

My nth attempt at trying to setup a blog and maintain it regularly. Here I will post my thoughts on topics that I am interested in at any given time..so expect to see topics as diverse as computer science, bio-informatics, linguistics, philosophy etc.
